5 Tips for Creating Coastal Interiors

As Orange County interior designers, we’ve had many opportunities designing homes on the coast. We’re going to give you some simple design tips that you can incorporate into your own coastal interiors.

Blue and White Coastal Interior

Tip #1 – Use a blue and white color palette

Blues and white add a nautical and coastal feel to a room. The striped rug, coral on the coffee table and ship wheel on the right side of the room add the finishing touches.

Burlap and White Beach Interior

Tip #2 – Add a Sisal Rug and Sea Life Throw Pillows

This burlap and white beach cottage is complete with the throw pillows and sisal rug. The rope tied table lamp and star fish in a wooden bowl underneath the coffee table enhance the look.

Seafoam and Coral Beach Vignette

Tip #3 – Find Driftwood on the Beach

This simple tip is great to add an architectural and rustic feel to your coastal interior. Leaning in the corner (as shown above), mounted on the wall or displayed on a console table. The great thing about driftwood is you can go to the beach and find something and it won’t cost you anything.

Rope Stair Railing

Tip #4 – Accent With Rope

The addition of rope to an interior always adds a coastal and nautical flare. We love the way the dock ties are attached to the steps with the rope as the railing. You could also use rope as a table lamp or even a picture frame.

Tip #5 – Add Wainscoting to Walls

Adding wainscoting to your walls will create nice touch to any coastal interior painted in a crisp white. It creates a ledge for the black and white ocean prints. The use of white furniture creates a crisp look and colorful throw pillows will add a pop of color to the room.

Hopefully these simple tips will give you some inspiration for your coastal interiors inspired rooms. We’d love to see your coastal interiors photos. Send us your thoughts and stop by Christopher James Interiors for more interior design inspiration for coastal interiors.
